    • Graphic Design and Marketing Services since 1997

Some 40 years ago, I began a career in marketing, concentrating mostly on sales campaign strategies. In 1986, shortly after the birth of "Desktop Publishing," I volunteered to bring my company's labeling and catalog printing in-house and I was thrust simultaneously into the graphic design and printing industries. Learning the new world of computer-based graphic design while also tackling the operation of a printing press was an immersive experience. After cutting my teeth in the days of rub-on letters and rubylith, it was akin to flying the Space Shuttle after never driving anything more complicated than a VW Van.

I became the first Corel-Certified instructor for Corel Draw!® in Northern Nevada and opened a small design studio in a print & copy center. Photocopiers were becoming more and more complex and in parallel to learning that corner of the industry, I also learned the fine art of binding, folding, and bookmaking. When the internet came about, some of my design customers asked me to assist with their websites, so I added that to the mix. Finally, the power of modern computers allowed for professional video editing, so projects such as promotional videos and TV commercial creation were naturals.

From there I branched out into product and prototype design, then stumbled into the music industry. I booked and produced concerts and festivals, which morphed into creating banners and websites for managers and agents, and producing "merch" for the musicians: CDs, Tour Posters, Tee-Shirts, and the like.

My career in design now spans five decades. Every two years I revisit my marketing roots, assisting with promotion and strategy for political campaigns. I think my bag is just about full. My clients have included large and small corporations, world-renown musicians, political campaigns, and small businesses of all flavors.

    • Stability in a Transient Industry

Over the years, many clients have been referred to me because their previous designers mysteriously disappeared. I'm sorry to say that in the design industry, that is not uncommon. Therefore I'd like to add a little personal information: I have been a resident of Minden, Nevada since 1997, and of the Carson-Tahoe area since 1977. My wife taught in the South Lake Tahoe and Douglas County School Districts for over 30 years and is currently an education facilitator for PBS Reno, our regional public broadcasting station.

Our daughters both attended Douglas County Schools, graduated from Douglas High School, have degrees in mathematics, and worked at Disneyland—creativity runs in the family. Our oldest is still a photographer for Disney and our youngest is a graphic artist in the UK.

You'll always be able to find me if, as the saying goes, the creek don't rise. Give me a call!
